Hey everyone,

Marcus Vernnon here  with a few tips that can help you with some of your Search Engine Optimization beliefs!

Search engines are widely misunderstood. The main reason why they are misunderstood is that the rules that they use change so often. Search engines are under a lot of pressure to keep spam under control which is the main reason that their rules and formulas change so often. This has led to many people having incorrect ideas about search engine policies on how to increase your rank, how to get indexed quickly and things like that. To be able to use SEO effectively you have to know what information you can trust. I will now expose some of these commonly repeated myths.

The concept that you need to submit your URL to the search engines is a very common myth. As the internet expands faster with each passing day, so too do the search engines evolve and adapt. This means that you no longer have to submit your URL manually to appear in the search engines. Sites are crawled by search engine spiders all the time so the quickest way to make sure your site is indexed is to have some links back to it from forums and Web 2.0 properties that are visited by bots all the time.

In fact, another you want to avoid submitting your URL to search engines is because it might even lead to the whole process taking much longer. So the best option is to get your website listed with a few popular sites and you’ll see it getting indexed in no time.

Another that a majority of the people like believing in is using the words in your Meta tag should be used on that particular page. Even though this is a myth, it still gets taught by many SEO professionals. The truth is that the Meta tags were created to use keywords not already on the page. The main point, however, is that neither Google nor Yahoo use these tags for ranking.

Another many believe has an important effect on your SERP rankings is the need to frequently update your site. While updating your site regularly with fresh content may lead to spiders crawling your site more frequently, it will have virtually no effect on your rankings. So, don’t make changes that aren’t needed simply for the search engines.

The effect will be so insignificant, it simply isn’t worth it. Simply visit some of the highest ranking sites in niches that are pretty popular and you will find they haven’t had fresh content added in quite a while. Overall, the best way to stay away from such myths is to stay well informed. Since myths can set you back with your goals, it’s a good idea to research everything before believing in it. The earlier you take care of it, the better it is.
